English is now almost over and we are wrapping up our first year of high school. Wow... It's been really fun this year, especially in honors english. One thing that I noticed that my english blog posts reflect about my character is my effort and quality. By looking at my old blog posts, I recognize a lot of blogs that I spent a lot of time to work on. These posts are by far the best ones that I've done. One example is my very first blog, it's obvious that I didn't put much work in by seeing the numerous amount of grammar and spelling mistakes. On the other hand, I also remember some of my earlier blogs where I didn't really make the subject interesting. This is reflected by having a lot of basic grammar mistakes in some of my posts. These were the blogs where I really didn't commit to being a better writer by analyzing the work I had done that week. They just showed laziness and lack of interest.

Another thing that I realized as I was reading my old blog posts is that for me personally, having to write something based upon an idea really makes me put some meaningful thoughtfulness into it. I seem to understand more of the material that we were learning in class by writing ideas down and reflecting upon them. A saying that I really like which reflects upon my thought process is that "The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts." by Marcus Aurelius. I really liked honors english because it forced me to compete with my smart fellow classmates to see who can be the most creative and quality writer.

A third aspect that I realize from reading my blog is that honors english has really changed the way that I read (if I ever do, that is). For example, when I read Firelight by Sophie Jordan, I didn't treat it like a english assignment but just more for the fun of reading. By doing this, I naturally came to assessing the book on it's writing, point of view, plot, and literary devices. I automatically came to finding motifs, irony, themes, and thoughtful ideas when reading Firelight. Now because of that assignment making me naturally think in a simple task such as reading, this is probably my favorite thing honors english has taught me. I love understanding stories to a whole new level where I just don't read the plot and understand, but now understanding every little word that the author incorporates into the story. Now because of this, I feel more intrigued to read more books to understand other people's ideas. This class has really set me up high school because it gave me a taste of what a honors class in high school is like. What I've learned is that they are challenging and may be very thought provoking. As a final shout out, thank you all for such a wonderful year of Freshman Honors English!!! I really enjoyed having you all in my class so stay awesome!!! :)
